About

Bio

Aïda Yancy is a Brussels-based activist and Diversity & Inclusion facilitator.

With a Masters in History, a specialization in Gender Studies and a degree in teaching, Aïda focuses on taking an intersectional approach regarding social inequities and the access of multi-marginalized people to spaces and services.

Her experience and research has led her to develop an acute understanding of the ways in which the notions of multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusivity can be misused and the damages this causes to people not only from minorities but also those who are perceived as such. Aida’s work calls for a true redefinition of such terms.

In recent years, she has taken part in multiple initiatives dedicated to providing safer spaces for LGBTI+ people, Black people, and people of color and has provided her services in the socio-cultural and activist sectors, as well as in more corporate and institutional settings, with clients such as embassies, music and art festivals, federal and European institutions, feminist organizations and more.

She has recently authored a toolkit aiming to provide safer spaces for LGBTI+ people perceived as having a migration background for services working with people who are (especially at risk of becoming) victims of sexual and gender-based violence. She produced this as part of a European project for RainbowHouse Brussels in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Equal.Brussels.
